Procrastinating your revision? It probably is not because you’re lazy.
When I work with students, one of the things I hear most often is that they procrastinate their independent revision. Right after that, they often tell me they are lazy, or have been described as lazy by someone else.
In years of experience of working with students, I have yet to work with a student who is truly “lazy”. They always care about their studies and want to do well. Many of them try to get the work done but struggle to. I would not describe a student who cares and who tries as “lazy”.
The real reason we procrastinate is often due to less logical reasons, such as stress and anxiety about the work we must do and the exams that are coming up after that work.
A fantastic first step can be to break down your work, piece by piece. I teach my students to use skills such as the “Pomodoro Technique”, which I consistently find to be a great way to bust procrastination. Building skills and habits to beat procrastination will always work much better than just applying discipline or more external pressure.
